Free Things to Do in Greenville, SC: A $0 Saturday Downtown, Plus the Parking Rules

Eight free things to do in Greenville, SC, each checked on an official page on October 21, 2026: Falls Park, Liberty Bridge, Mice on Main, the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a free art museum and two free Saturday museums. Plus where parking is free and the one nearby park that charges.

Downtown Greenville has the look of a place that charges for everything. Most of what people drive in for costs nothing: the falls, the bridge over them, the trail along the river, an art museum, and two small museums that open their doors on Saturdays.

The one thing that can cost you is where you leave the car. So this list does two jobs. It names eight free things to do in Greenville, each checked against an official page on October 21, 2026, and it spells out the parking rules the city publishes, so a free day stays free.

Saturday is the day that lines up: both small museums and the art museum are open, the market runs through October, and the city’s garages are free on weekends.

Parking: the only real cost

The City of Greenville’s visitor information page lists two free options. Street parking downtown is free for 2 hours. The city’s parking garages are free for the first hour, and free on weekends and in the evening. The page does not say what the garages charge after that first free hour on a weekday, or what time “evening” starts, so on a weekday, read the sign at the garage entrance before you plan a long visit.

The art museum has its own lot. According to gcma.org, the first half hour there is free, then $1 per half hour with a $5 daily max, and it is free on weekends and after 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Getting there from Greer is cheap: Falls Park is about 13 miles and 26 minutes away, and the round trip is about $4.11 in gas at 25 miles per gallon and the AAA South Carolina average of $3.833 on October 21.

This is the center of the free day. The city lists Falls Park’s admission as $0, open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. The waterfall runs right through downtown, and Liberty Bridge, the curved pedestrian bridge that hangs over it, is part of the park with no separate fee.

Walk the bridge for the view of the falls, then take the paths down along the water. The gardens on the slopes are part of the same park.

Mice on Main: the free one for kids

If you have kids along, start here. Nine small bronze mice are hidden downtown, and the city’s visitor page says to start the hunt at NOMA Square. The same page links a hints sheet, so pull it up on your phone before you start. It costs nothing and turns the walk down Main Street into a game.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail

The city describes the Swamp Rabbit Trail as a nearly 14-mile greenway for walking and biking, and its visitor page lists no fee. You do not have to do the whole thing. Pick it up downtown, walk out along the river for as long as you like, and walk back. A short downtown visit becomes a full afternoon outside that way.

Greenville County Museum of Art

The museum’s own page puts it plainly: “Admission is free.” It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday, and closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Its lot is free on weekends, so a Saturday or Sunday visit costs nothing at all.

Two free Saturday museums

The city’s museums page lists two small museums that are free and mostly a weekend thing.

Both keep short hours, so put them on the plan first and fit the park and the trail around them.

TD Saturday Market (through October)

On Saturday mornings from May through October, Greenville’s TD Saturday Market runs 8 a.m. to noon, according to the South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s listing. Walking it is free; the food is what costs money. The listing says it accepts EBT/SNAP, WIC and Healthy Bucks. The season runs through October, so if you are reading this in November, it is done until spring. Our farmers market morning has more on how to work a market without overspending.

The one nearby park that charges: Paris Mountain

Paris Mountain State Park is about 17 miles and 32 minutes from Greer, and it is not free. South Carolina State Parks lists admission at $6 for adults, $3.75 for South Carolina seniors 65 and over, $3.50 for ages 6 to 15, and free for 5 and under, open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For two adults that is $12, plus about $5.18 in gas from Greer. It is still a cheap day, just not a free one.

A free Saturday, in order

  1. 8 a.m. Park in a city garage (free on weekends) and walk the TD Saturday Market, if it is still the season.
  2. Mid-morning. Start the Mice on Main hunt at NOMA Square and work your way down Main Street.
  3. Before 2 p.m. Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, since it closes at 2.
  4. Lunch. Pack it and eat in Falls Park.
  5. Afternoon. Liberty Bridge, then the Swamp Rabbit Trail for as long as your legs want.
  6. Before 5 p.m. The County Museum of Art or the Legion museum, both free until 5.

Where to stay if you are coming from farther away

This page is built for a day trip, and we did not price downtown hotels for it. If you are making a weekend of the Upstate, our cheap weekend getaways from Greenville has dated room rates for eight nearby towns, and our campground versus hotel math shows when a campsite wins.

Before you go

Hours and fees on this page were checked on official pages on October 21, 2026. Museum hours are short and can change for holidays and events, so check each link the morning you go. If you like a slower kind of free afternoon, our courthouse square afternoon works in almost any Upstate town, and the free museum days guide covers how to find free admission elsewhere.
